Extra Credit on the flower symbol: Due by 5.18

What do flowers symbolize?  Look for sections with flowers and check who is with the flowers, what color are they and what state are they in (dead, fake, wilting, cut...).  Find three pieces of evidence with citations to support your claim.

Preparation for 5.15's seminar

Reread your HWs and previously read pages and come in to class prepared for a seminar on:

• Why does Atwood italicized some words?  What message is she trying to convey in these italicized words?  Do they connect in any way?  Do they revolve around a particular theme?  Use evidence to try to figure it out.
• What words and images are repeated over and over?  What might that word or image symbolize? How does it connect to the themes? Use evidence.
• What themes are present thus far?

Choose one to post about. Name, period # and topic first please. 

Mandatory Post due by 5/13

Post one of the following topics from your reading of 37-50 in HT:

• An allusion, its meaning, where it comes from and how it connects to HT
• some italicized words and why you think Atwood italicizes them
• repeated words or images, what you think they mean, and why she repeats them
• any element of satire you see with evidence and analysis of what it is satirizing

HW due 5.9 can be shared here
